An area to explore on foot
The Mayenne is passionately devoted to walking with nearly 2,000 miles of walking routes, often circular walks, open to ramblers.
The scale of this network of routes shows the local passion for walking : even the smallest village will often have a rambling association that busies itself cleaning and clearing footpaths and organising walks.
Diversity of the Mayenne landscape
You can explore the whole area at your own pace and enjoy discovering the diversity of the landscape : the valleys of the north-east, the wide plains in the south, the Craon area, the Pays de Loiron and the Laval region, the towpath and the disused railway lines that have been converted into hiking trails and more.
To help you find out more and plan your route, the Comité Départemental de la Randonnée Pédestre de la Mayenne, (the departmental committee for rambling in the Mayenne) publishes guidebooks and is on hand to offer any advice you may need.

Mayenne is also a favourite spot for those who love riding
In the Mayenne, an area well known for its trotters, horse riders have something to smile about: most paths in the area are open to horses.
This is a very popular pastime, with treks and rallies organised throughout the year by professionals and associations.
Beginners and more experienced riders are all welcome on the bridleways of the Mayenne.
There is currently a departmental project underway to create over 600 miles of bridleways, some of which are already up and running.
Specially designed accommodation is available along these routes with facilities for both riders and horses; these also offer any assistance you may need for an enjoyable and successful ride.
