Mayenne Castle is one of Europe’s best-conserved civic buildings from the High Middle Ages.
It houses some exceptional collections of objects found during the archaeological excavations carried out from 1996, such as coins, crockery, weapons... as well as an extraordinary collection of backgammon and chess tokens and pawns dating from the 10th – 12th centuries.
Visitors can take an interactive tour to find out more about the remarkable vestiges left from the Carolingian period the history of the castle over the last 1000 years.
