The site of Château-Gontier beside the Mayenne gives it an Angevin charm and sweetness that is passionately cultivated.
Everywhere, room is made for strolling in the fresh air, thanks to a series of footpaths and lawns that wend their way from one district to the next.
Two squares, Frome and Murrhardt, lie alongside the River Mayenne and bid you welcome with a varied display of mosaiculture.

Public Gardens
Château-Gontier is also noted for its public gardens:
- the Medieval Garden of La Source, situated at the foot of the former ramparts, inspired by the walled gardens of the Middle Ages
- the Garden at the End of the World, located at the top of the town. This 3-hectare garden is perfect for a stroll in the shade of the big, centuries-old chestnut and lime-trees. It has recently been remodelled and is adorned with many flowerbeds and shrubs and perennial plants.
- the Fragrance Garden, situated close to the River Mayenne, where there are fragrant flowers and herbs (lavender, mint, oregano, thyme), in total 80 varieties to delight visitors with their perfumes
- the Trial Garden, which surrounds the fragrance garden and presents a wide, labelled sample of all the varieties used for floral decoration in the town.
- the Italian garden in the enclosure of the Ursuline Convent, and also the garden in the Rue des Trois Moulins…

Amongst the many areas in bloom in Château-Gontier. others that deserve a mention are
- The English Garden
- The Swimming-Pool Park
- The Promenade de Murrhardt
- The Rose-Garden of La Motte-Vauvert
Guided tours of the gardens are organised between April and September.
